Lala Kent Reflects on Life as a Single Mom of Two: ‘I’m So Lucky’
Life as Single Mom: Lala Kent Embraces Motherhood with Joy and Strength
Life as single mom isn’t always easy, but Lala Kent proves it can also be filled with joy, purpose, and personal growth.
When I joined a Zoom chat with Lala Kent, she looked cozy on the couch with her daughters, Ocean and Sosa. Despite being sleep-deprived, she radiated contentment while juggling motherhood with authenticity. Her calm energy illustrated how much had changed in only one year.
Taking a Step Back from Reality Television
In 2024, Kent was pregnant with Sosa and recovering from a public breakup with Ocean’s father. She bravely chose to become a single mother. When Sosa was born, Kent found peace in the absence of cameras, enjoying undivided time with her growing family. Though life as single mom brought its trials, Kent faced them with unwavering dedication.
Then, Vanderpump Rules shocked fans with a full cast reboot, excluding Kent. She took the change with grace, embracing the gift of uninterrupted motherhood. “I’ve been at every pickup, bedtime, and early wake-up,” she says. “These moments are so fleeting.”
Life After Vanderpump Rules
Kent first appeared on Vanderpump Rules in 2015, making waves with her confidence and candor. Since then, she has transformed into a resilient mother.
She recalled bonding deeply with Ocean when filming paused during the pandemic. Now, she feels grateful for another opportunity to do the same with Sosa.
“The universe seems to have my back,” Kent notes. “I’ve gotten to really enjoy my babies.”
Dreaming of Baby Number Three
Motherhood has changed Kent, but it hasn’t slowed her. She’s already thinking about expanding her family with a third baby. “I’m loving it so much that I’m not ready for these stages to end,” she says.
Kent plans to get pregnant again within the next year, hoping Sosa will be around two years old by then. “That feels like the right age gap,” she explains. “But honestly, the universe always has the final say.”
Ocean Embraces Her Role as Big Sister
Ocean, now four, has blossomed in her role as big sister. She’s supportive and kind, even proudly handling diaper duty.
Though Ocean splits her time between two households, Kent shares that co-parenting boundaries have improved. Despite early struggles, both parents now support Ocean’s needs.
“She’s thriving,” Kent says proudly. “She just finished preschool, and her teachers say she’s happy, healthy, and emotionally intelligent.”
Building a Supportive Village
Kent’s support system includes her mom, brother Easton, and castmates from Vanderpump Rules and The Valley. She considers Scheana Shay and Brittany Cartwright like family. Even Kristen Doute, once estranged, has become a close friend since becoming a mom herself.
Surprisingly, Kent also formed a deep friendship with Tom Schwartz, once her on-screen adversary. “We’ve said the worst things to each other,” she laughs, “but now he’s like the cool uncle to my kids.”
Why Dating Can Wait
Though fans speculate about her dating life, Kent remains focused on her daughters. Dating isn’t a priority right now.
“If my heart gets hurt, I’m mentally taken away from my kids,” she says. “I can’t let that happen again.”
Ocean was just seven months old when Kent was in emotional turmoil from her last relationship. She refuses to risk that kind of distraction now.
Raising Strong, Self-Loving Daughters
One of Kent’s greatest parenting goals is instilling confidence and self-love in her girls.
“Once you master self-love, it’s hard for others to shake you,” she explains. “That’s the armor they need in this world.”
She recalls a moment when Ocean asked another parent to address a playground issue. Kent was amazed by her daughter’s courage and emotional intelligence.
“It reminded me that kids absorb everything,” Kent says. “They mirror our strength, our lessons, and our voices.”
Embracing the Unexpected
Kent never imagined her life as it is today. Yet, she wouldn’t change it for anything.
“I chose to be a single mother. It wasn’t traditional, but it feels so normal now,” she says.
Living a life as single mom has made her stronger, more present, and full of gratitude. Her home—filled with the laughter of girls and the rhythm of daily routines—has become her happy place.
“This house full of chicks is everything I ever needed,” she smiles. “I don’t know how I got so lucky.”
