A mother’s inventive and budget-friendly approach to keeping toddlers entertained during the winter season has taken the internet by storm. Her creative activities, which include DIY indoor obstacle courses, homemade sensory bins, and fun crafts using household items, have captivated parents looking for affordable ways to engage their little ones. With a mix of imagination and resourcefulness, her ideas not only keep toddlers active but also foster learning and development. As her tips continue to go viral, many parents are inspired to embrace cost-effective yet enriching ways to make winter days more enjoyable for their children.

As winter drags on and cabin fever sets in, many parents are struggling to keep their toddlers entertained without breaking the bank. But thanks to MomTok, there’s a viral list of budget-friendly and creative winter activities for toddlers that are sure to keep little ones engaged and parents sane.

Kirah Johnson, a mom and parent coach, recently shared her clever list of cheap and fun winter outings that go beyond the usual library visits or museum trips. One of her top picks? The car wash. “The lights, suds, and action make it an instant hit with kids,” Johnson explains, and parents get the bonus of a clean car. Another fun idea is the car seat switchup—simply move the car seat around, grab some fries, and enjoy the view from a new perspective.

Johnson also suggests escalator adventures. Take your toddler to places like Scheels, Bass Pro Shops, or a local mall for a free and fun ride. Pet stores and animal shelters also make the list, where toddlers can interact with furry friends or admire reptiles and fish.

In her final suggestion, Johnson tapped into her creative side with planes, trains, and automobiles (and even tractors). “Is there an airport nearby? Can you watch planes take off? Or take a loop on free city transport?” she asks. The possibilities are endless, and it’s all about finding fun ways to get moving and exploring.

When all else fails, Johnson jokes, “I heard Grandma’s home, and she really wants to see them!”

Parents have praised Johnson’s suggestions and even contributed their own. One parent humorously suggested the fan favorite, IKEA, while another shared, “Free crafts at the hardware store on the first Saturday of every month.” A third mom added, “Local thrift stores! My toddler picks out two cars to play with while I shop, and sometimes he gets lucky with a cheap toy, game, or book.”

These creative outings are sure to keep toddlers entertained—and they don’t have to cost a fortune!
